The President of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs accompanied by the Council’s Secretary-General and members residing in Tan-Tan chaired on Thursday April 27, 2006 at the Tan Tan based Conference Room a meeting with the elected representatives of the region and the representatives of political bodies, trade unions, civil society and social actors. The meeting was attended by the Wali of Guelmim Smara province and prefect of Tan Tan.

Council chairman: the new royal policy in the Sahara does not exclude any region or sector

Mr. Khalihenna Ould Errachid said that "one of the most important tasks of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs is to study and address the various economic and social problems affecting the southern provinces, thus implementing of the new royal policy which does not exclude any region or social sector."

EU to examine 'with much interest' Sahara autonomy plan, German FM

German Forein Minister FranK Walter Steinmeier whose country holds the rotating chairmanship of the European Union, on Monday welcomed Morocco's draft plan to grant substantial autonomy to its Southern Provinces - the Sahara- and said the EU would follow with much interest this initiative.
