The UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for the Sahara, Christopher Ross, has warned that the status quo in the Sahara conflict "is now threatened by the rise of extremist, terrorist, and criminal elements in the Sahel region."

Settling the Sahara issue will help to establish better stability in the African Sahel, said MEP Gilles Pargneaux, underlining the need to find a political solution to this dispute under the United Nations.

The countries of the Cooperation Council For The Arab States of the Gulf reiterated on Wednesday their position and constant solidarity with the Kingdom of Morocco for the preservation of its territorial integrity.

The chairman of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs, Khalihenna Ould Errachid, received Tuesday at the Council’s headquarters, Mr. Christopher Ross, the UN Secretary General’s personal envoy to the Sahara within the framework of new regional tour, that seeks new impetus for the negotiations process in order to find a reasonable political solution, framed by the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco.
