The Moroccan proposal to grant autonomy to its southern provinces, the Sahara, is a "good basis for negotiations" to settle the Sahara issue, Governor of the State of Virginia, Timothy Kaine said.

Members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) have favourably welcomed the UN Secretary General's latest report on the Sahara, Chairman of the Council and Mexican ambassador, Claude Heller, said on Wednesday.

Equatoguinean President, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, has expressed "his support to the Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara" and reiterated "the strong and constant support" of his country to Morocco to achieve a peaceful and lasting settlement of this conflict, under Morocco's territorial integrity and national sovereignty.

The municipal council of the city of Laayoune held on Saturday the signing of the twinning between municipalities of Laayoune and Italian Sorrento to strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two cities in the political, economic, social, cultural and scientific fields. This twinning with a European city is a historically unprecedented event in the Sahara region.

President of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, said, here Thursday, that Morocco's proposal to grant autonomy to its southern provinces (The Sahara), is the "best solution" to settle the Sahara issue.
