The support expressed by the United Kingdom for Morocco's autonomy plan for the Sahara heralds a new era of strengthened and mutually beneficial partnership between Rabat and London, said Joe Powell, a Labour member of the House of Commons (the lower house of the British Parliament).

Morocco's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Omar Hilale sent a letter to the President and members of the UN Security Council, in which he denounces a biased paragraph on the Moroccan Sahara in its latest report to the General Assembly.

Before the United Nations Committee of 24, Antigua and Barbuda reiterated its full support for Morocco's territorial integrity and national sovereignty, including the Sahara region.

The United Kingdom “considers Morocco’s autonomy proposal, submitted in 2007 as the most credible, viable and pragmatic basis for a lasting resolution of the dispute” over the Moroccan Sahara, and “will continue to act bilaterally, including economically, regionally and internationally in line with this position to support resolution of the conflict”.

Côte d'Ivoire has reiterated its “full support” for Morocco's autonomy initiative for the final resolution of the regional dispute over the Sahara, on the occasion of the regional seminar of the C 24, held in Dili, East Timor (May 21-23).
