“The present situation requires a position in conformity with the evolution of the process and with the spirit of the UN security council, 1754 resolution» declared the Green Cape foreign affairs minister during a press conference.
“This decision comes from the willingness to search coherence with the process of negotiation and constitutes a signal to parties concerned that a solution of the problem, particularly in this case relies primarily on concessions and compromises of parties directly concerned.” Added Mr Victor Borges.
The chief of the Green Cape diplomacy indicated that all diplomatic delegations of his country abroad and at the African Unity have been informed of this decision.
Moreover the Moroccan minister of foreign affairs and cooperation Mr Mohamed Benaissa had an audience with the Green Cape President Mr Pedro Pires, to whom he conveyed a verbal message from his majesty King Mohamed VI.
Mr Benaissa equally indicated that the Sahara issue was among other issues discussed with the President of green Cape.
The Minister of foreign affairs and cooperation had talks with his homologue from Green cape Mr Victor Borges, who greeted the Moroccan initiative for negotiating an autonomy statute for the Sahara region.
In a statement broadcasted by the Moroccan radio and TV, Mr Borges assured Morocco to “rely on the support of the Green Cape government, in order that this process achieves a political and peaceful solution». to the conflict
As to the chairman of the Green Cape national assembly Mr Aristides Lima, he congratulated his majesty the king, and the Moroccan government for this initiative which according to him constitutes a good basis of work with the aim to settling the conflict.
Concerning Mr Georges Santos leader of movement for democracy (an opposition political party) he made a statement saying that his party adopts a favourable position to the Moroccan proposal. “Our political party supports the substantial autonomy» proposed by Morocco he said.
