Costa Rican Foreign Minister, Bruno Stagno, said that "it is necessary that the parties find a solution (to the Sahara issue) within the framework of the United Nations, in a spirit of realism.''

In a statement to MAP following a meeting, here Wednesday, with his Moroccan counterpart, Taieb Fassi Fihri, Stagno reiterated his country's position which "firmly believes in the necessity of negotiations ", stressing that the relations of Costa Rica with the so-called "SADR" are "in the freezer and will remain frozen" until the end of the process of negotiations.

During the meeting, the two officials discussed the prospects of economic cooperation and development of relations between the two countries.

For his part, Fassi Fihri told MAP that "Costa Rica underlines the importance of the latest Security Council resolution and hopes that other parties show a good will to meet the provisions of this resolution in a spirit of compromise, realism and efforts made by Morocco'' to find a solution to this dispute.

Earlier, Fassi Fihri was received by Costa Rican president Oscar Arias, to whom he conveyed the condolences of king Mohammed VI following the earthquake that hit his country last January 8. He also met with the speaker of the Costa Rican legislative assembly, Francisco Antonio Pacheco.
