Major Event

The Moroccan autonomy proposal is "a major step that should be encouraged," said Said Hadef, an Algerian intellectual, adding that Manhasset negotiations are very important to move towards a definitive solution to this conflict.

"Morocco is a country qualified to build a Mediterranean area of peace. Its Autonomy proposal is a big step that should be encouraged. Manhasset meetings were very important to move towards a solution. We should, within the framework of our civil society, through the press and all other means, convince leaders to adopt positions that would serve the interests of the peoples who want to be unified," said Hadef in an interview published Thursday by the "liberation» daily.

"The Sahara conflict is a false problem that should not mask the realities of what people need, namely concord, peace, understanding and unity to work together to develop the North African region", said Hadef who participated in the International Youth Forum for Peace held recently in Laayoune.

"We must resolve this problem in a climate of understanding, brotherhood and cordiality. We must not hinder the march of history," he added.

"As intellectuals, we must give our leaders the ideas of unity following the example of European states," said Hadef, adding that the task that should involve all young North Africans is "to create a profitable unit».

"We lost a lot of time that we must recover. To do this, we should unify our efforts and create a climate of understanding and comprehension," he insisted.

Associative actor Said Hadef is also a poet, writer and journalist. He is also one of the founders of the National Association of Artists in Algeria and a member of the Union of Algerian Writers.

He has written several collections of poetry published in many literary magazines in the Arab world.

He was granted in October 1994 Award of Honor by the cultural association "Al Jahidia", founded by the novelist Tahar Wattar.
