The autonomy plan for of the southern provinces presented by Morocco aims to "promote the emergence of a compromise", reiterated the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Mr. Taib Fassi-Fihri, regretting that despite efforts of the Kingdom, described as "credible and serious" by the international community and the Security Council, Algeria and the Polisario "have never expressed" the desire for openness and realism. "

The minister, speaking in an interview published in the latest issue of the weekly "L'Express International," reiterated the call of the Security Council of the United Nations to all parties to work with the United United for a political solution that would break the deadlock.

Mr. Fassi-Fihri expressed the hope that the next round of talks will be "more fruitful", noting that Morocco, which remains open to negotiation, can not be "confined forever in a waiting stance."

Referring to the "advanced status granted to Morocco by the European Union, the Minister pointed out that the Kingdom's relations with the EU are" old and close "and have been consolidated over the years, especially with the signing in 1996 of an Association Agreement entered into force in 2000.

Negotiations with the EU for granting advanced status were greatly facilitated by the internal developments of our country, he said, noting that the negotiations led to advanced status, with a road map adopted in last October.

The first document contains a series of actions effective immediately and reflect a strengthening of the Morocco-EU partnership in several areas and then a number of economic commitments in the medium term, said Mr. Fassi-Fihri.

As for the Arab Maghreb Union, he believed that the unity of the Maghreb is now more than ever a need, however, regretted that twenty years after the Treaty of Marrakesh, which was formally given birth to the UMA, "the draft has not come out yet."
