The (UK) government welcomes the efforts made by Mr. Peter Van Walsum, former Personal Envoy of UN Secretary-General for the Sahara "to reach a solution to the conflict," said Bill Rammell, UK Foreign Office Minister, responsible for North Africa and the Middle East, in response to a question from Labor MP David Drew, who asked about the position of London about the re-nomination of Mr. Peter Van Walsum in his post.
The British minister expressed the willingness of his government to work with the next Personal Envoy of UN Secretary-General for the Sahara.
"The appointment of personal envoys and special representatives is a matter relating to the prerogatives of the Secretary General of the United Nations and the United Kingdom respects this independence on such appointments. The UK will work with the new Personal Envoy when he or she will be appointed", said the British official.
