The initiative of autonomy proposed by Morocco is "the only solution to the Sahara conflict that undermines Maghreb integration," said the President of the Center for strategic studies (OEG), Mr. Charles Saint-Prot.

This is the analysis made by "the great powers, including the United States and France," said Saint-Prot, in a statement to the MAP, on the sidelines of a conference on regional development, organized Wednesday at foreign press reception center (CAPE) in Paris.

We must, he said, "pay tribute to Mr. Peter Van Walsum who had the courage to say that independence was not a realistic option," noting that "all those of good faith" have made the same observation.

Autonomy, said the OEG director," is a very strong reality which gives results in education and economic development in the southern provinces of Morocco, a region that moves, lives and progresses in de facto autonomy."

He noted that on one side, «there is a party that works for the development of these provinces and another party that maintains an obsolete conflict", saying he was sad to see the Maghreb integration mortgaged.
