Chilean Senator Francisco Xuan confirmed, Tuesday in Rabat, that the Chilean Senate supports the autonomy initiative in the southern regions of the Kingdom.

Mr. Xuan highlighted, during the opening of the Future Conference, organized by the Moroccan Parliament in its two chambers, in cooperation with the "Future Meetings" Foundation, and the House of Representatives and the Senate of the Republic of Chile, on December 17 and 18, that the Chilean Senate submitted a draft resolution to support the autonomy initiative presented by Morocco.

Mr. Xuan, who is also a member of the "Future Challenges" Committee, explained that the autonomy model has proven its ability to achieve development and listen to the concerns of the population, stressing that his visit to the city of Laayoune enabled him to see firsthand the unprecedented development achieved by this region and the quality of life enjoyed by the population.

On the other hand, Chawan highlighted that Morocco represents a gateway to the African continent for Chile, noting that the two countries face global challenges such as climate change, inequality, and urban and human mobility.

He considered that the two countries and other countries from the South are able to provide solutions and ideas during discussions in global forums that deserve to be taken into consideration.

It is worth noting that the "Conference on the Future", which is an opportunity to exchange views between parliamentarians, government officials, scientists, researchers and stakeholders on issues of concern to the future of humanity, addresses in its current session a number of current vital issues, such as the challenges facing the world of the future, climate change and international migration, promoting peace and security in the world, food security, and cooperation between the North and the South.

The conference also discusses topics on confronting global health challenges, the energy transition and its prospects, transformations witnessed by human relations and social ties in the 21st century, effects of artificial intelligence on the economy and society, promoting tolerance and gender equality, and Africa as a continent of the future.
