Asked about the termination of the mandate of the U.N. Secretary General Personal Envoy to the Sahara, Peter van Walsum, the spokesman said that Morocco is confident that the issue of the Sahara on the right track is today, that of seriousness and objectivity.
"We don't imagine a return to the sterile years which marked the issue," he said at a press briefing after the cabinet meeting, pointing out to the "wise" positions of the Security Council and of several countries known for the objectivity and seriousness of their stands vis-à-vis the different aspects of this file.
Naciri also affirmed that van Walsum "has fulfilled his mission with a lot of objectivity,” adding that “he had the political courage to say what all the wise people in the world admit, namely that the creation of a sixth state in the Maghreb is sheer absurdity.”
The minister also deemed that the pressures exerted on the Secretary General of the U.N. are fruitless.
