On Monday, August 14, 2023, the Moroccan people commemorate the 44th anniversary of the recovery of the Dakhla Oued Eddahab region, an anniversary marking a historic milestone in the process of recovering the independence and territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco.

On August 14, 1979, delegations of scholars, dignitaries, notables and sheikhs from all the tribes of the Dakhla Oued Eddahab region met in Rabat to renew and confirm the oath of allegiance to His Late Majesty the King Hassan II - may his soul rest in peace -

After decades of Spanish colonial presence in the southern provinces, the march of liberation of the remaining occupied parts continued, starting with the region of Tarfaya in 1958 (including Guelmim, TanTan…) and later Sidi Ifni in 1969. The southern provinces were thus liberated thanks to the Green March on November 6, 1975, but also thanks to the genius and wisdom of His Majesty King Hassan II. It was also about fighting and heroic acts of a fighting population in these regions and finally the recovery of the Dakhla Oued Eddahab region on August 14, 1979.

This historical epic represents an opportunity to bring to the carpet the crucial connotations and symbolic dimensions of this epic of the recovery of national independence, territorial integrity and the continuous process of victorious construction and continuous development during the reign of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
