The State of Israel's decision to recognize Morocco's full sovereignty over the Sahara is a "transcendent act" that aims not only to strengthen bilateral relations, but also to "generate stability in the region", said Manuel Conde Orellana, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Guatemalan Congress.

In a statement to MAP, Conde Orellana said that Israel was sending "a clear message" to the international community and to those states that have not yet declared their support for Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara, and expressed his conviction that "the states with which Israel has very good relations will surely take this decision by Israeli diplomacy into account".
Conde Orellana, who is also President of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Morocco within the Guatemalan Congress, was keen to stress in this context that his country, through Congress and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, had adopted in 2018 "a very clear position of recognition of the right of the Kingdom of Morocco to exercise its full sovereignty over the Sahara".

He also recalled that his country decided to open a consulate general in Dakhla more than 8 months ago, adding that a similar decision adopted by Israel (installation of a consulate in Dakhla) constitutes a "positive sign".

In this context, the Guatemalan MP praised the Kingdom's investment promotion and clean energy policies. Morocco, he said, is also at the forefront of public policies aimed at preserving natural resources and ensuring industrial and technological development.
