Participants in a seminar on relations between Morocco and Latin American countries, held recently in Mexico City, highlighted the growing international support for the legitimate rights of Morocco over its southern provinces and autonomy plan as the only solution to definitively close the regional dispute over the Sahara.

During this meeting initiated in parallel with the International Book Fair of Morelia, emphasis was placed on the dynamics of development in all directions in the southern provinces now erected as a real regional economic growth pole, which buries once and for all the separatist theses.
In this regard, the Moroccan ambassador to Mexico, Abdel Fattah Lebbar, reviewed the historical context of the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara and the development efforts made by the Kingdom in its southern provinces.

"This development dynamic is reflected in various aspects of life. The populations of the southern provinces enjoy the fullness of their rights, while in the camps of Tindouf in Algeria, the sequestered are deprived of the most basic conditions for a decent life, and are completely isolated from the rest of the world, "he said.

On the other hand, the diplomat reviewed the development of relations between Morocco and Latin American countries, as well as the promising opportunities to further promote the partnership between two regions that share many cultural, economic and strategic denominators.

The ambassador stressed that "one of the basic criteria governing relations between Morocco and the rest of the countries in the region is to respect the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom, and to confront the separatist theses of entities such as the terrorist group Polisario, which aims to destabilize the entire region with the direct support and funding of Algeria.

Mexican analyst, Andres Ordonez, stressed that the growing international support for Moroccan efforts, within the framework of the autonomy plan, reflects "the status and credibility of the Kingdom as a major player for peace and security at the regional and international levels, and as an economic pole that has chosen to accelerate the pace of development of its southern provinces.

This expert in international relations also stressed the exclusive character of the United Nations in the political process for the settlement of the Sahara issue, which emphasizes the role and responsibility of the parties in the search for a realistic, practical and sustainable political solution based on compromise.

Spanish academic and sociologist Rafael Esparza considered that Polisario is only a puppet in the hands of Algeria to serve its agenda and its geostrategic interests, surprised by the obstinacy of the Algerian regime to deny its responsibility in the genesis and persistence of this artificial conflict.

"The continued rejection by Algeria of the Security Council resolutions, which enshrines the process of the Round Tables with the participation of Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania and the Polisario, betrays its attempts to obstruct, by all means, the political dialogue, in a way that serves its political and economic desires.

The meeting led by researchers and academics from Morocco and Mexico, was also an opportunity to review the status and prospects for cooperation between Africa and Latin America, as well as ways to promote the establishment of a strategic south-south pole for development and prosperity on both sides of the Atlantic. Emphasis was also placed on the positive evolution of Moroccan-Mexican relations, as well as opportunities available to advance them at several levels.
