Mr. El Fassi, who received Monday evening, representatives of the national press, said that the world is now aware of the rightness of Morocco's position, mentioning in this context, the statements by the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General, Mr. Peter Van Walsum, who said that the option of independence is "unrealistic".

Morocco has made in recent years, several achievements, starting with the report by former UN Secretary-General, Mr. Kofi Annan, who buried the Baker plan, considering that the settlement of Sahara conflict can only be political, he said.

The Prime Minister welcomed the position expressed by the Heads of State and Government of member countries of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa on the initiative of Morocco to grant extensive autonomy in the Sahara, calling it an option that "could maintain the momentum in the negotiating process towards a mutually acceptable political solution".

Despite these positive developments, Morocco is expected to mobilize at all levels to defend the Sahara issue until its final settlement on the international level, Prime Minister concluded.
