The Forum, based in Las Palmas, was made public on May 13, a press release in which it expressed its "firm condemnation of non-respect of human rights" and "repression" perpetrated against demonstrations in cities in South Provinces.
The "Canary-Saharan" Forum asserts, however, in a press release received Wednesday by MAP-Las Palmas, after a visit last week by a delegation of the Forum in Laayoune to inquire "in situ" about the situation and examine these "facts", the latter discovered that they were only allegations.
Through this visit, the Forum members had contacts with "several Human Rights associations," according to the same source, indicating that after having received "different opinions" made by the various components of civil society, it turned out they were casual incidents such as the arrest of criminals. The Forum deplored the exploitation of these incidents in order to "give them a political connotation."
The delegation noted that the situation was normal and that calm reigned in this city, conclueded the release of the "Canary-Saharan" Forum.
