Indonesia expresses its "appreciation" about the Moroccan "tenacity" to resolve the Sahara issue "through dialogue and negotiation", said Sunday in Rabat, the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Nur Hassan Wirajuda.

Mr. Wirajuda made the statement to the press, on the sidelines of the meeting of the 1-era session of the Moroccan-Indonesian Joint Committee of economic, scientific and technical cooperation co-chaired by foreign ministers of both countries.

Indonesia, added the minister, welcomed the determination of Morocco to continue the dialogue towards a peaceful solution to this issue, to ensure "peace and security" in the region.

"Indonesia continues to support strongly the efforts of the United Nations Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy to reach a final political solution to this regional conflict," said a joint statement issued at the end of the Joint Committee’s works.

Indonesia, according to the call of the UN Security Council "believes that parties must intensely and substantively continue the negotiation process and ensure the implementation of the Security Council resolutions, including the latest resolution 1813 adopted in April 2008," according to the release.

Indonesia mentions that the UN SG stressed that "realism and a spirit of compromise from the parties are essential to maintain the momentum created by the negotiations process," said the press release.

Indonesia is a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

For his part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Mr.
Taieb Fassi Fihri, reiterated that Morocco was "firmly committed" to its initiative of autonomy, repeatedly described as "credible and serious" by the Security Council.
