The national press pointed out on Thursday the new failure of the enemies of the Moroccan territorial integrity in the aftermath of the British and Spanish support for a "mutually acceptable political solution" to the Sahara conflict.

The Sahara issue was triggered in the mid-seventies by the claim of the Algeria-backed "Polisario" to separate the Moroccan southern provinces, known as the Sahara, from the motherland, after they were retrieved from Spanish rule in line with the Madrid accords signed in 1975.

The French-speaking daily "Le Matin du Sahara et du Maghreb" notes that the two countries have just spoken, once more, in favour of a political solution to the Sahara conflict, adding that despite the information echoed by the Algerian press, Madrid and London reiterated their position concerning this conflict that was all made up by Algeria.

The daily reports that UK Foreign Office state minister in charge of Africa and Middle East, Kim Howells, noted that his country has, on several occasions, exhorted Morocco and Algeria "to bury their differences", in order to reach a solution to the conflict.

By expressing support to "a mutually accepted political solution", 10 downing street restated the stance of the superpowers over this question, said "Liberation" daily, noting that "this stance answers the Kingdom's (Morocco) invitation to establish a dialog between all the parties concerned by the conflict, namely Algeria."

For "L'Opinion" daily, Morocco spares no effort to convince the world of the Sahara Moroccanity and to convince about its will to favor a final, peaceful, negotiated and acceptable political solution by all the parties involved.

The arabic-speaking daily “Al Ittihad Al Ichtiraki" daily echoes that many countries underlined unanimously that the solution to the conflict can only be political and negotiated.”
