"L'Opinion" daily said the report has upset Algeria and has "sent waves into our east neighbour and its ‘Polisario’ appendix and put the last nail to the Baker Plan coffin".
The report opens the way for direct negotiations and favour dialog "and the rise for a consensual political panacea respecting international legality", the daily said.
"Al Alam" daily stresses that the report has "caused a bid panic to the adversaries of our territorial integrity, namely in Algeria and in the camps of Tindouf".
The Algeria-backed « Polisario », claiming the separation of the Moroccan southern provinces, known as the Sahara, settled in the town of Tindouf, southwest Algeria, where it lured in the mid-seventies thousands of Sahrawis to back its separation claim. Morocco retrieved its provinces in 1975 from Spanish rule under the Madrid accord.
“Al Alam” said “Polisario” mercenaries have refused to engage in direct negotiations, which shows a change of stand and reveals their hidden objective to keep the conflict going on “and make profit from it”.
"Al Mounaataf" daily said that the acknowledgement by the report of the political reality regarding the issue is an implicit confirmation of the Moroccan sovereignty over the territory.
« The stand of Algeria and the separatists vis-a-vis the UNSG report does not surprise observers », said the daily adding their refusal of the report mirrors their proneness to harm the Moroccan territorial integrity, the daily said.
"Libération" daily, which also notes the refusal of the report by Algeria, said the latter “has much to gain in a five-country and unified Maghreb regarding its development strategy and in facing challenges”, as was intended by Arab Maghreb Union heads of State when they signed the agreement on forming the grouping in Marrakech.
"Attajdid" daily said Algeria "has ratcheted up its hostility toward Morocco in venting threats over what it calls ‘serious consequences of the solution of the Sahara issue’”.
“The new escalation comes in the wake of the crisis going on in Algerian politics after the publication of the latest UNSG report, which recommends direct negotiations between the two concerned parties in the conflict, including Algeria”, the daily said.
