Minnesota Democratic Congressman, Keith Ellison promised to conduct investigations into the humanitarian situation in the Polisario-run Tindouf camps, southern Algeria.Congressman Ellison said after a meeting with a delegation of former detainees in the camps that he will do his best to help the detainees, and see to it that the humanitarian assistance sent to them is not embezzled.

"It seems that these people have suffered a lot", said the US  congressman, adding that his office will consider this issue more closely,

and "we will work with them (the delegation) to see how we can help, and how to supervise the distribution of the humanitarian assistance."

Thousands of Moroccan civilians are kept in the camps -led by the Algerian-backed Polisario separatists - after they were lured in the mid Seventies into joining the Polisario separatist thesis.

A delegation representing the former detainees who have fled to Morocco is in Washington to inform the U.S. officials, MPs and representatives of human rights movements on the inhumane conditions undergone by the Tindouf camps detainees.

The delegation also aims to denounce the embezzlement, by the Polisario, of the international humanitarian assistance sent to the camps.
