Sahrawi families exchange visits, allowing Sahrawis living either in the Moroccan southern provinces or in the Polisario-run camps to visit their relatives resumed on Friday with a new two-way trip.

Thirty-three members of ten families of the southern provinces of Oued Eddahab and Aousserd flew in the morning from the town of Dakhla on board of a plane of the UN mission in the Sahara (MINURSO) to Lahmada camp, in south-west Algeria, while 33 persons traveled on the same plane from the camp arriving in Dakhla in the afternoon, a communiqué of the Moroccan Coordination with the mission said.

The coordination expressed satisfaction over the continuation of the family exchange moves and called on the High Commissioner for Refugees to "take full responsibility as far as this operation is concerned."

In mid-seventies, the Algeria-backed "Polisario" misled thousands of Sahrawis through propaganda into leaving their homes to Tindouf camps, at the same time waging war on Morocco claiming the separation of the Moroccan southern provinces, known as the Sahara, retrieved by the motherland from Spanish rule, under the Madrid accords.

O
rganized since March 2004, the Sahrawi families exchange  visits benefited to some 2,904 persons, 1,497 of whom live in the Tindouf Camps.
