 Italian news portal Insideover highlighted on Tuesday the support voiced by the international community to the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco for the final settlement of the Moroccan Sahara issue.
"To date, Rabat's initiative is the only real proposal on the table to resolve the dispute" the Italian media outlet points out, recalling that the UN Security Council has enshrined in its resolution of October 30 the pre-eminence of the autonomy initiative proposed by Morocco.
The Italian magazine also commented the U.S. decision to recognize the full and entire sovereignty of Morocco over its Sahara, noting that this decision is, "from a diplomatic point of view, a turning point" in the settlement of this regional dispute.
"In fact, Washington has officially recognized the sovereignty of Rabat over the Sahara, fully adhering to the autonomy plan," said Insideover.
The portal also recalls the conference organized on January 15 on the autonomy initiative. "A meeting in which, at the invitation of Rabat but also of the government of the United States, 40 countries in total took part", the source stressed, adding that the participants "expressed a favorable position regarding the autonomy plan".
Participants came from several countries, including France, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt and Senegal, it said.
The conference "was an opportunity to explain in detail the autonomy proposal and the hopes placed in this plan" for the final settlement of the dispute, the Italian portal underlined.
