The French Newspaper Alsace de Dimanche said that Moroccan initiative to negotiate in order to grant autonomy to the Sahara" is a first step not an end in itself, which is part of a broad plan of modernization and democracy." 

 




 

The newspaper mentioned the difficult living conditions in the camps, saying that "all testimonies agree on the absence of freedom of movement and freedom of expression in these camps."

L’Alsace de Dimanche said that Moroccan initiative was greeted by the UN Secretary-General, the United States, France, Spain, and the UN Security Council, adding that Morocco "has created new dynamism to break deadlock and provide a framework for dialogue, negotiation and compromise" .

As far as the Maghreb is concerned, the newspaper said that the "understanding between Tunisia Libya, Mauritania, Algeria and Morocco would give political weight to the region and revive their economies," adding that the "continuation of the conflict would encourage the escalation of terrorism," based on information saying that " (POLISARIO) mercenaries who practise all types of smuggling, are getting close to Al Qaeda."

Having described the initiative as "innovative", the paper added that the population of the southern regions favourably received this initiative, and "raised the interests" of Tindouf population "who aspire for a better future."
