 Preparations for the 2020-2021 school year in the context of the spread of the new Coronavirus pandemic are taking place in “good conditions”, said the director of the Regional Academy of Education and Training (AREF) of Laâyoune -Sakia El Hamra, Mbark El Hansali.
In an interview with MAP, Mr. El Hansali indicated that the AREF of Laâyoune-Sakia EL Hamra prepared all scenarios, depending on the evolution of the epidemiological situation in the region and nationwide.
The rule is distance education, but taking into account the circumstances and the wishes of parents, tutors of students can choose the model of teaching they wish, i.e. face-to-face or not, he noted that parents who want to opt for this teaching format are required to fill out a form to notify their choice.
The epidemiological situation of the region remains more or less “under control” compared to other regions of the Kingdom, but the decision to adopt face-to-face could vary from one province to another from one municipality to another. or from one educational institution to another, he noted.
AREF director said the last meeting chaired by the region’s wali on the start of the school year confirmed that distance education is the rule.
But for all those who choose face-to-face education, he noted, they have the obligation to strictly comply with the health protocol, “because health of students and society is a priority”, specifying that each institution is obliged to respect barrier gestures, physical distancing, permanent disinfection, as well as the wearing of masks.
AREF director has assured that any establishment that violates this protocol will be "closed".
He said that the lessons have been filmed for the next three months (October, November and December), while the month of September will be devoted to revisions and updating knowledge of students to upgrade those who have not completed distance education correctly from the previous year.
Mr. El Hansali noted that if parents of students would opt for face-to-face teaching, capacity of 50% of students per class will be maintained, that is to say by rotation for primary ( daily), while college and secondary, a week attendance and week distance education will be decided.
He stressed that the implementation of the sanitary protocol poses "major" problems, in particular due to the lack of human resources to ensure hygiene and disinfection on a permanent basis.
“This is a problem especially for primary education, but we are now working to meet this challenge according to the available capacities, and with the support of partners who have demonstrated their involvement”, he indicated, stressing that 'in these “exceptional” circumstances, the school “cannot accomplish this delicate mission on its own”.
