The Special Committee in charge of the Moroccan Sahara in Europe (CSCSME) was received Monday at the Cuban Embassy in Paris, for talks on the plight of children forcibly deported to Cuba by Polisario separatists.

During the meeting with Cuban diplomats, CSCSME chairman, Mr. El Hassan Benhamou, told his interlocutors, Mr. Leydo Rodriguez Hernandez, political adviser, and Ernesto Rey Pino, first secretary, about the suffering of sahrawi families and mothers detained in Tindouf in Algeria et deprived of their children.

The president of this NGO underlined that the tragedy of these deported children is a violation of international humanitarian law, including the 1989 Convention on the Rights of the Child, under the full responsibility of Algeria since that the deportation of those children took place in its territory.

Mr. Benhamou also explained to the Cuban diplomats the difficulty encountered by humanitarian organisations and human rights to meet the deported children's families or quantify the number of deportations in order to assess the extent of this scandal.

CSCSME chairman denounced this inhuman blackmail blatantly practised by Polisario leaders against parents and families in order to force them remain in the camps of shame. Mr. Benhamou has also handed over to diplomats a copy of the Moroccan autonomy proposal  for the Sahara, adding that this project, which has gained the support of the international community and the UN Security Council, is the only credible and enforceable on the ground.

He also talked with his Cuban interlocutors on Manhasset negotiations near New York (USA) held on the initiative of Moroccan autonomy and respect of the kingdom’s territorial integrity, denouncing Polisario’s bad faith.

The two Cuban diplomats have expressed full readiness to transmit the content of this meeting to the competent authorities in their country.
