Gulf press hailed on Sunday Moroccan king Mohammed VI's will to offer a large autonomy to Sahrawi populations, deeming that the "solution that the UN has been unsuccessfully seeking, the Moroccan king has found."

King Mohammed VI on Saturday called on southern provinces populations to get involved in a serene and deep reflection on the autonomy project within the framework of Morocco's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In a speech addressed to the nation in Laâyoune (1250 km from Rabat), Moroccan king also announced the new composition of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs (CORCAS) to make practical proposals on the country's territorial integrity, and economic, social and cultural development of the southern provinces.

For Kuwaiti daily +Assiyassa,+ "The solution that UN has been unsuccessfully seeking, King Mohammed VI has found by offering to Sahara populations an autonomy that allows them manage their affaires within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity,” affirming that with the autonomy project, the Green March will achieve its political objectives after 30 years of resistance.

The Sahara issue was triggered in the mid-seventies by the claim of the Algeria-backed “Polisario” to separate the Moroccan southern provinces, known as the Sahara, from the motherland, after they were retrieved from Spanish rule in line with the Madrid accords.

According to Saudi daily +Al Watan+, the King overtook the other conflict parties, namely “Polisario” and Algeria, to affirm his will to offer a large autonomy to Sahara populations within Morocco’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Quatari daily +Arraya+ recalled the Sovereign’s appointment of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affaires (CORCAS), which aims to be “an efficient institution for southern provinces development and an effective body to rally citizens and make proposals.”

Under the title “king Mohammed VI presents in Laâyoune a Sahara autonomy project,” the Emirati daily +Al Khalij+ noted that the sovereign, who stressed that he will not give up one inch of the Sahara, plans to suggest an autonomy project to UN as a definitive settlement to the artificial conflict within the Moroccan sovereignty.
