"We will examine the detailed file, that was presented to us by president of the Association of polisario missing persons (APDP) Dahi Aguai, on the cases of torture and enforced disappearances perpetrated by the polisario in the Tindouf camps, to see how our institution could intervene", Lezertua Rodriguez told MAP, on the sidelines of a meeting held at the headquarters of the body with a civil society delegation from the southern provinces of the Kingdom.

The Basque Country's Ombudsman praised Morocco's efforts to reach a solution to the artificial regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, assuring that the autonomy initiative put on the table by the Kingdom is an ideal solution to this issue.

Highlighting the successful experience of the Basque Country as an autonomous region of the Kingdom of Spain, Lezertua Rodriguez stressed that Morocco's autonomy proposal, which is hailed by the international community, is a viable and credible solution to the regional conflict over the Sahara.

During his meeting with Lezertua, the said delegation, which was composed of Aguai and victims of the polisario, namely Jmaiaa Yassine and Mohamed Mokhtar Al Alyin, exposed the grave human rights abuses by the separatists against the populations in captivity in the Tindouf camps, on the Algerian territory.

The Moroccan delegation also held meetings with other officials of the Basque Country on the same topic.
