The Presidents of Burkina Faso, Roch Marc Christian Kaboré, Comoros, Azali Assoumani, and Sao Tome and Principe, Evaristo Do Espirito Santo Carvalho, have reiterated, before the United Nations General Assembly, their support for the exclusive political process of the United Nations with a view to reaching a negotiated and mutually acceptable political solution to the Moroccan Sahara issue.

"Burkina Faso reiterates its support for the on-going political process, led under the exclusive auspices of the UN Secretary General, with a view to reaching a mutually acceptable and negotiated political solution to the dispute as recommended by the Security Council since 2007, including resolution N°2468 adopted on 30 April 2019," said President Kaboré in an address at the General Debate of the 74th session of the General Assembly, held from 24 to 30 September in New York. Burkina Faso welcomes the two round tables held with the participation of Algeria, Morocco, Mauritania and Polisario, in accordance with Security Council resolutions 2414 and 2440, he pointed out, while commending the work of the former special envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General. He also called on all parties "to contribute to the political process and bolster their participation in the negotiation process". For his part, President of the Comoros, Azali Assoumani, reaffirmed the "unwavering commitment" of his country to the final settlement of the Moroccan Sahara issue under the auspices of the United Nations. "The Union of Comoros would like to (...) reaffirm its unwavering commitment to the final settlement of the Moroccan Sahara issue, under the auspices of our prestigious United Nations Organization", President Assoumani said in a speech to the General Assembly. In his turn, President of Sao Tome and Principe, Evaristo Do Espirito Santo Carvalho, called on "all parties to engage in the political process, under the auspices of the United Nations, until its completion". "Moreover, we welcome Morocco's efforts to reach a political settlement of the regional dispute over the Sahara on the basis of the Moroccan autonomy initiative," he said in an address to the UN General Assembly.
