Spain's acting Prime minister, Pedro Sanchez, defended, on Tuesday, the centrality of the UN in reaching a "just, lasting and mutually acceptable political" solution to the Moroccan Sahara issue.


The government of Spain defends the centrality of the United Nations and wishes to contribute to the efforts of the UN Secretary-General to achieve, in accordance with Security Council resolutions, a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution" to this conflict, the Spanish official stressed in his speech to the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly, which is being held in New York. Sanchez, who made no reference, for the first time, to holding any referendum for the settlement of this dispute, said that Spain is in favor of a "just, lasting and mutually acceptable political” solution to this dispute.
