"Following the publication of a resolution by the Youth Association (YEPP) on Morocco, Joseph Daul, the President of the People's Party and Antonio Lopez-Isturiz, Secretary General, distanced themselves from this position. ", said a statement issued by EPP.

"We regret the position adopted by YEPP, which in no way reflects that of EPP. We will ask for clarification on the adoption of a document that is in contradiction with the line of the party," said the two leaders of this political group in their statement.

The two EPP leaders reiterated their party's support for a just, lasting and respectful solution for all stakeholders, in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.

They note that "Morocco is a reliable partner to guarantee security on both sides of the Mediterranean, overcome the challenge of migration, strengthen our trade or fight climate change together", adding that it is "in this perspective that the EPP develops privileged links with parties that share our values in Morocco and we hope to deepen these relations in the future ".

In addition, the EPP youth president Andrianos Giannou distanced himself from this text adopted by some members (7 votes), stressing in a statement made public in Brussels, that it will be entirely reconsidered at the next meeting of the Council, in accordanvewith the political line of the party and in support of the efforts of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to seek a consensual political solution to the Sahara issue.

He said he had visited Morocco twice this year and held meetings with young people from some Moroccan political parties, noting that his long-standing vision is to support a strong partnership between the European Union and Morocco to address common challenges.
