A trip to and from the provinces of Laayoune and Smara was held Thursday as part of the family exchange program between Tindouf camps on Algerian territory and the Kingdom’s southern provinces by the High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR).

According to a MAP statement from the office of the Moroccan Coordination with MINURSO, the 2014 third trip included 129 people from 23 families.

48 people from the provinces of Laayoune and Smara belonging to 11 families left Laayoune Hassan I airport to Tindouf, the statement said, and 118 people from 14 families arrived on the same plane from the Tindouf camps.

The operation took place in purely human conditions and all measures have been taken to ensure a warm welcome to the participants, the statement said.

This new exchange concerns until now 20,256 beneficiaries since in March 2004, with 9,421 from the southern provinces of the Kingdom and 10,878 from Tindouf camps.

Expressing its willingness to move forward, the office of the Moroccan Coordination with MINURSO called on UNHCR to ensure compliance with the provisions of action plan governing this operation to ensure the safety to beneficiaries.
