The United Nations Secretary-General, BAN Ki-moon, appointed Canadian Kim Bolduc as his Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO).


“The new Special Representative of the Secretary-General will succeed to Mr. Wolfgang Weisbrod of Germany, who will complet his assignment on 31 April 20114,” said the United Nations Secretary General in a letter sent to the Security Council last week.

“Ms. Bolduc brings to this appointment over 30 years of experience in international development and humanitarian work and a demonstrated record of management and leadership,” a statement by the spokesperson of the UNSG said on Monday.

Ms.Bolduc held various positions within the UN in the field, including in Honduras from 2004 to 2006, Iraq in 2003, Peru from 1997 to 2002 and in Ecuador from 1992 to 1997.

From November 2009 to April 2010, she served as Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Humanitarian Coordinator for the United Nations Mission for Stabilization in Haiti, before she was appointed Coordinator of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Panama from 2010 to 2014.

Ms.Bolduc was born in Vietnam in 1952. She is licensed in international cooperation and development from the University of Ottawa and conflict resolution and humanitarian action from the University of Geneva.
