The unanimity of Sahrawis excited about this initiative and seek its rapid application

The Moroccan autonomy initiative is the result of a participatory democratic, transparent , and sincere approach based on reconciliation and compromise to resolve a conflict that has lasted too long , said Monday in Strasbourg, Dr. Maouelainin Ben Khalihenna Maouelainin, Secretary General of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs (CORCAS ).


Speaking at a hearing before the Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, CORCAS Secretary General tackled the genesis of the Sahara issue , noting that the Moroccan proposal autonomy is the result of a broad consensus and was developed through a participatory , democratic sincere and transparent approach  taking into account the grievances and demands of all Sahrawis .

This project is part of building a modern democratic society based on the rule of law , individual and collective freedoms and economic and social development.

It brings the promise of a better future for the peoples of the region , ending separation and exile , and promoting reconciliation , he stressed, adding  that through this initiative , the Kingdom of Morocco guarantees all Sahrawis outside and inside , their place and their role, without discrimination or exclusion in the bodies and institutions of the region.

Saharan populations, he said, will be able to manage themselves and their affairs democratically and have the financial resources needed to develop the region in all areas .

After explaining the mode of operation of different institutions and structures provided by this project, CORCAS Secretary General stressed that autonomy proposal has the merit of being based on reconciliation and compromise  which earned it  international recognition as a serious, realistic and credible project.

CORCAS Secretary General also made a call to end the plight of populations included in the Tindouf camps and lift the siege imposed on them to enable them return to their families and friends and live in dignity enjoying their rights.
