Algeria seems to be seriously undermined by international NGOs at the United Nations Council of Human Rights in Geneva on the endless humanitarian tragedy in Tindouf camps in southwestern Algeria.

The blockade imposed on the people in the camps raises the anger of human rights defenders , who do not hesitate to report violations committed with impunity against thousands of Sahrawis deprived of their freedom of movement and expression and their right to development.

Several international NGOs , including the International Development Agency (IDA), the Organization for Communication in Africa and International Economic Cooperation ( Ocaproce ) and the International Action for Peace and Development in the Great Lakes region ( AIPD ) spoke at plenary sessions of the UNHRC to condemn these violations.

They in turn asked the Council to put pressure on Polisario leadership and Algerian authorities to encourage them to lift the blockade on camps and allow thousands of Sahrawis to exercise their most basic rights movement and expression.

AID said that human rights defenders should assume responsibilities to break the deafening silence that persists on what is happening in Lahmada camps. " Why these people are still being held in inhumane conditions away from their families and their homeland ," questioned the NGO adding that this situation is unbearable as the Saharan provinces of Morocco enjoy the benefits of stability , security and development.

The organization deplores the politicization of the issue of Sahrawis who serve as simple card of pressure and bargaining in the hands of the Algerian regime to prevent opening the issue of human rights .

" It's time to loosen the noose around thousands of women, children and families, identify people and offer them the opportunity to join their country ," said the agency , which calls for an end to this illegal situation where a handful of separatist leaders enrich themselves with diversion of food aid from the poor.

OCAPROCE said to be "very concerned about the plight of these women and children who suffer multifaceted violence in Tindouf camps," wondering how to protect these people from the arbitrariness of the Algerian state which violates rights of its own citizens . "
