The acceleration of economic and social reforms and regionalization process can help settle the Sahara issue, said the Socialists and Democrats Group at the European Parliament.

The S & D Group is convinced, given the democratic development in Morocco, of an acceleration of economic and social reforms and regionalization process can help a political and negotiated solution to the Sahara conflict, writes the leader of Socialists, Hannes Swoboda, in a letter to Ambassador Menouar Alem, head of the Mission of Morocco at the EU.

In this letter, also signed by the Vice President of S & D Group Véronique de Keyser, Mr Swoboda says the EU has instruments to help Morocco promote human rights and economic and social development, noting that the European Neighbourhood Policy is another opportunity to do so. A delegation of MEPs from the S & D Group in the European Parliament paid late June a visit to Morocco.

Led by Véronique de Keyser, the delegation was composed of Ana Gomes, Maria Muniz de Urquiza, Norbert Neuser, Pierantonio Panzeri and Gilles Pargneaux.
