ATSME (Moroccan Sahrawi Tribes Association in Europe), strongly denounced the US project in the Sahara, calling on the international community to seek a political solution to the dispute over the Sahara and stand against the exploitation of human rights for political purposes to interfere with the political process launched in the region.

Through this statement issued in Paris, the spokesman of the Moroccan Sahrawi Tribes Association in Europe, member of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs, Dr. Lahcen Mahraoui "warned against any change in MINURSO status in the Sahara" since "any change in the status and objectives of the mission is a synonym for us to ceasefire agreement "concluded in 1991.

ATSME "strongly condemns the use of human rights for politicians purposes" because it feels that "there is no worse violation of human rights that their manipulation for narrow political ends."

The political process in the Security Council looking for a "political, fair, realistic and mutually acceptable solution” to put an end to this regional conflict must continue, according to Mahraoui in a "serene atmosphere and should not be interfered by other considerations. "

"We regret that during the last four years, no progress was made while Morocco in 2007 by offering a wider autonomy that meets international standards and which is qualified in all the UN Security Council resolutions as serious and credible, helped this process out of the status quo" he added.

In addition, ATSME calls on the international community to "take all responsibilities and seek a political solution to the conflict more quickly to limit the extent of instability in the region."

This region, he said, "is already threatened by terrorism, trafficking of all kinds (drugs, weapons, humans…) on its borders and should not be further destabilized."
