France reiterated Wednesday its support to the Moroccan autonomy plan, the "serious and credible basis" for a negotiated solution to the Sahara issue, during a visit to Paris of the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary General for Western Sahara, Christopher Ross.

"France supports the Moroccan autonomy plan presented in 2007 and considers that it is the serious and credible basis for a negotiated solution," said the spokesman of the Quai d'Orsay, Philippe Lalliot during a briefing.

This statement was made when Mr. Ross was to be received by senior officials of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs to "discuss the challenges he is currently facing."

France "reiterates its support for the search for a just, lasting and mutually agreed solution, under the auspices of the United Nations and in accordance with the resolutions of the Security Council" and "supports the efforts of the Personal Envoy to continue negotiations, "said the spokesman.

Before Paris, Ross went to Madrid at the end of his tour in the region, which began on October 27 in Morocco, as part of efforts to revive the political process aimed at finding a lasting political and consensual solution to the regional dispute over the Sahara.
