Spain has welcomed Morocco's "serious and credible" efforts to reach a political solution to the Sahara issue.


In the joint final statement issued at the end of the 10th Morocco-Spain high-level meeting held in Rabat on Wednesday, the two sides stressed the importance of the resumption of negotiations on the Sahara issue on "solid foundations in accordance with the resolutions and parameters clearly defined by the UN Security Council, especially realism and the spirit of compromise in order to reach a political solution to the protracted dispute."
   
Regarding the Sahel-Sahara area, Morocco and Spain expressed their conviction that the security threats in the region require inclusive responses.
   
In this connection, they urged the international community, and especially the countries concerned, to take concerted actions in all areas related to security, good governance and development in the countries of that region.
 
The two countries reiterated their commitment to contributing to peace, stability and development in the region, to endeavouring to resolve regional crises and to contributing to world peace and security in accordance with the purposes and principles set out in the UN Charter.
 
They also reaffirmed their determination to fight all the major global threats and to fully contribute to world efforts  to combat and eradicate them.
