During the meeting attended by Dr. Maouelainin Benkhalihenna Maouelainin, Corcas Secretary-General, the chairman informed his guests about the history of the Sahara issue, especially the history of decolonization in Morocco, noting that the recovery of the Sahara from Spanish colonization, was a natural and logical step in the series of steps that led to the recovery of parts of the Moroccan territory that were under the control of colonial powers.
On the other hand, Mr. Khalihenna mentioned the Moroccan autonomy solution proposed to allow Sahrawis to manage their affairs under Moroccan sovereignty. The Chairman stressed that this proposal was welcomed by the international community, including through the resolutions of the Security Council and states' positions.
In this regard Corcas chairman reiterated the tour he made in 2007, with former Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Mohamed Benaissa, in Latin America to expose the autonomy plan.
During this meeting Corcas chairman and his guests also discussed the situation in the Sahel region and the increased threats of terrorism and security in the area, requiring an acceleration of a solution to the Sahara conflict to avoid a situation whose main victims are the people detained in the Tindouf camps.
The Latin American delegation consists of a MP from Peru and several journalists from Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina and Panama, in addition to a Spanish journalist.
