The US newspaper "Global post," said on Friday, July 6, 2012, that the people detained in Polisario camps in Tindouf in southwestern Algeria have suffered for over three decades the confiscation of their freedom of movement, in a total violation of international treaties.

The US journalist and author, Allison Lake, expert on terrorism in North Africa, said that Algeria "has delegated the camps administration to the Polisario, providing military, logistical and diplomatic aid to separatists."

In this regard, the U.S. Think Thank "Inter-University Center for Legal Studies", called for ending the suffering of the people detained in the Tindouf camps, due to the resignation of Algeria vis-à-vis its responsibilities under international law, as host country, asking the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), to be effectively present in the camps to protect the rights of the inhabitants, including the freedom of movement.

The think tank said in its report that "in accordance with its commitments, Algeria needs to work with UNHCR, to overcome all obstacles that prevent the establishment of an approach based on law, including the blocking of census of the camps inhabitants (....),military support to the Polisario, which contributes to the obstruction of freedom of movement ".

The report emphasizes that although Algeria has signed international agreements on refugees and its participation in UNHCR mechanisms, the country does not meet its commitments regarding residents, regretting also that the High Commissioner which is responsible for "protecting refugees (...) preferred to remain in a supporting role that is limited to providing food and equipment to the camps."

On the other hand, "Post Global" noted that the Algerian position, which prolongs conflict "undermines regional security in North Africa and worsens humanitarian crisis faced by residents in the Tindouf camps".

The US newspaper indicates citing Mohamed Benhamou, President of the African Federation for Strategic Studies, that "currently, we must analyze the Sahara in the light of the civil war that took place in Libya, especially with respect to security consequences.

The newspaper warns against the danger threatening the Sahel region due to the presence of separatists who fought alongside the former regime of Muammar Gaddafi. This strategic break has led to the arrival of rebels and separatist groups in the regions of the Sahara and the Sahel. "
