The Wolrd Labour Association for Peace and Development in the Great Lakes, regretted during discussions on the advancement and protection of all human social, economic and cultural rights, including the right to development, the fact that some areas monitored by separatists militia are still witnessing a violation of human rights on a daily basis.
The Association stressed that serious violations of civil and political rights, including arbitrary arrests and assassinations, violence and sexual abuse of women and children take place in conflict zones, particularly those under the control of armed militias.
It stressed that freedom of expression in these areas is the most violated, stating in this context the case of Najem Allal, a poet and singer residing in Polisario camps who lost his job and was prevented from any activity since he wanted to reflect in his songs despair experienced by the Tindouf and populations and their dissatisfaction over the absence of any realistic perception on the part of the Polisario leadership regarding the Sahara issue.
Furthermore, several non-governmental organizations highlighted during a session on the Right to Education held on the sidelines of the twentieth session of the Human Rights Council the situation experienced by children in the Tindouf camps.
In the same vein, three non-governmental organizations called for the need to carry out a census of Tindouf camps population by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), stating that separatists offered figures without giving any evidence emphasizing that non-governmental organizations and UN Agencies considered these figures inaccurate and not realistic.
