The last thing Africa needs is another unviable state, which would be a hotbed of terrorist and criminal networks, as evidenced by the serious turn of the Malian crisis and proved collusion between elements of the Polisario and the terrorist group Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), warned participants at a conference in Washington.

"The north of Mali has become a focal point for extremists in the region", stressed on this occasion, Peter Pham, Director of the Ansari Africa Center, which belongs to the Atlantic Council think tank.

He believes that "the last thing Africa needs is another non-viable state that would be a hotbed of criminals and terrorist networks."

While claiming to represent various ideologies, these terrorist and criminal networks are in collusion for "pragmatic" reasons, he noted at the meeting hosted recently by the think tank Carnergie Endowment for International Peace.

For his part, Ambassador of Niger to the United States, Maman Sidikou, said in this regard, that "While terrorists are strengthening on a daily basis their position in northern Mali, the international community seems powerless" .

It is worth mentioning in this connection that the three Western aid workers, who were kidnapped on October 23 in the heart of the Polisario camps in Tindouf, southwest Algeria, are held in northern Mali by Mujao which threatens to kill one of them if ransom demand is not met.
