The Russian Foreign Minister Sergueï Lavrov reiterated Wednesday in Moscow, his country’s call to "find a just, lasting and acceptable solution" by parties to the Sahara conflict, "in conformity with UN resolutions".

As a permanent member of UN Security Council, Russia "closely follows issues in the region and contributes to efforts to reach a compromise solution, in accordance with UN resolutions," said the Russian Minister, during a joint press conference with the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Saad El Dine Otmani, on a working visit to Moscow.

"The Security Council adopted, by consensus, all resolutions relating to the Sahara issue, reflecting the will of the international community to find an acceptable solution according to the UN plan, approved by the parties," he noted.

Lavrov reiterated Moscow's commitment to "continue supporting the efforts of the UN and the international community to find the right solution" to this issue, adding that "any progress in this direction will have a positive impact on the region at all levels."

Moreover, the Russian foreign minister expressed his country's concerns about the security situation in the Sahel-Saharan Africa, including "the exacerbation of terrorism, extremism and arms trafficking, which are likely to endanger the security and regional stability. "

Russia, he said, "is prepared to contribute to stability and to give support to countries in the region to fight against terrorism and allow a return to normalcy."
