 A delegation of MEPs, currently on a working visit in the Kingdom, arrived Saturday evening in Laayoune where they will hold meetings with elected officials, civil society actors and local officials, visit development projects and witness the socio-economic development of the southern provinces.



 "We came in Laayoune, in the southern provinces, to examine the conditions on ground of the implementation of the agricultural agreement signed recently between the EU and Morocco and emphasize the importance of the fishing agreement for both parties, told the MAP at the airport of Laayoune, the head of the delegation, the French Socialist MEP Gilles Pargneaux. "Our visit is an opportunity to reaffirm our favorable opinion on autonomy status in the Sahara," he added.

 Composed of members from different nationalities and political trends, the delegation of MEPs carried out since Thursday a working visit in the Kingdom at the invitation of the Chourouk Center for Democracy, information and human rights and at the initiative of the Morocco-European friendship group at the European Union Parliament.

 The visit of the EU delegation seeks to deepen relations between Morocco and the EU and get acquainted about the democratic process in Morocco and the progress made by the Kingdom in various fields.

 The visit also aims to show the MEPs that the funding granted by the EU, through its agreements with Morocco, is beneficial to the people of the southern provinces, local development and the Moroccan fisheries sector.
