On the occasion of the 30th meeting of foreign ministers of the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU), Algeria said that the Sahara issue will not impede the efforts made by the five countries (Morocco, Algeria , Mauritania, Tunisia and Libya), for the revival of the AMU, as this case is before the United Nations for a solution satisfying all parties.

In addition, this issue will not impede the rapprochement and cooperation between Morocco and Algeria.

The Algerian Foreign Minister Mourad Medelci said in several statements at the meeting of foreign ministers of the North African countries, which took place in Rabat on February 17 that the Sahara is "treated within the United Nations Framework, therefore we do not need to discuss this subject at the Maghreb level".

Medelci estimated at a press conference that the Western Sahara issue will not be an obstacle to positive development of relations between the two countries, Morocco and Algeria, because "they existed before and during the birth of the idea of the Arab Maghreb Union, "adding that the two parties (Algeria and Morocco), agreed that "each one will respect the views of the other ".

The Algerian minister reiterated the certainty of his country that the United Nations would reach "a satisfactory solution for both parties in accordance with the UN resolutions ".

He added that "the changes experienced by countries in the region require from us a redesign of the Arab Maghreb Union."
