The international expert on terrorism and organized crime, Jose Maria Gil Garre called on Tuesday, the UN not to ignore the Sahara issue, accusing the Polisario "to keep on the conflict to continue existing, while the leaders of this group have become millionaires. "

The Polisario is a destabilizing factor in the Sahel-Saharan Region because of its established links with drug traffickers from Latin America and the terrorist network that develops in this area, said in New York, Jose Maria Gil Garre.

Latin American drug cartels have invested in Africa, taking advantage of collusion between drug traffickers and some Latin American groups in the Sahel-Saharan region, including elements of the Polisario said the Director of the Observatory for the International Security and Strategic Studies and chairman of "Eurogroup", based in Murcia (Spain).

He said the Polisario Front violates the rights of the Saharawi people in the camps. Nothing justifies the continuation of the conflict, he claimed. He hoped "that the UN will be able to observe what is really happening in the area, otherwise the organization will demonstrate a lack of accountability."

To supply the European market, criminal organizations are seeking new "routes" to save their goods, making the African continent, including the Sahel-Saharan Africa, their "new road" thanks to porous borders, corruption, drug traffikers have succeeded to make several African states true hubs.

The West Africa, which is close to Europe where states are weak or nonexistent with fragile structures and high corruption, "is the ideal place and a corrupt movement like Polisario can only help this situation" said the expert at the conclusion of a study of more than four years spent observing the migration of serious international crime.

For Jose Maria Gil Garre, there is no doubt that there is "collusion between the Latin American groups and elements of the Polisario, due to their shared ideologies and the lure of easy money," as it is clear that there are linkages between the separatists and AQIM, he said before the 4th United Nations Commission.

The unstable Sahel region already facing terrorism, "constitutes a threat to the Maghreb, including Morocco and Algeria," country used by traffickers to sell their goods in Europe, stressing that the best way to protect oneself, is a true and fair direct cooperation between the two countries.

"To improve the operational strategy against terrorism in the area, it is necessary to work together in a spirit of sincere commitment" between the two countries.
