French Foreign Minister Alain Juppé described Morocco's autonomy plan as "a serious and credible negotiation basis for achieving a lasting settlement of the Sahara issue."

Speaking following a meeting with Moroccan FM Taib Fassi Fihri, Juppé reiterated France’ support for the negotiation process under the aegis of the UN Secretary General’s Personal Envoy for the Sahara, Christopher Ross.

The meeting was an opportunity for the French official to salute the constitutional reforms announced by HM King Mohammed VI in a “bold” and “visionary” speech and to laud the “ambitious measures” taken to protect human rights in the Kingdom.

The two officials also discussed the means to boost bilateral relations and the situation in Libya.
