The development witnessed by the southern provinces of Morocco put forward a system of governance that is responsive to the needs of the people, director of the International Center for the Study of Terrorism, Yonah Alexander, said on Monday in Washington.

"I have recently visited the city of Dakhla and I was able to see one of the most inspiring experiences in terms of human development," Alexander told MAP on the sidelines of the 13th annual seminar on "Terrorism: Analysis of the year 2010 and possible developments in 2011," organized at the National Press Club in the U.S. federal capital.

This "stabilizer" governance system, he noted, gives "full place to society as a stakeholder in the development including the economy, tourism and agriculture (...) thus showing the advantage of having a government that listens to people. "

He added that Morocco "is undoubtedly a regional model in the fight against religious radicalism through a holistic approach that has proven itself,” saying that "not resolving the Sahara issue offers opportunities to AQIM to intensify its activities in North Africa and the Sahel."
