The injustice done to people suffering in Tindouf camps by Polisario and Algeria "must be repaired," said on Sunday Kathryn Porter Cameron, Chairwoman of the Leadership Council for Human Rights, one of the most important human rights NGOs in the United States.

"For over 35 years, this population has been held hostage by Polisario Front and Algeria in the Tindouf camps, where their most basic rights are systematically violated," laments Ms. Porter Cameron in a statement released on the occasion of the celebration of International Day of Human Rights.

The international community, she added, “must ensure that the harm that has been done is repaired and that their rights and freedoms are safeguarded," denouncing "torture, deprivation and stigma affecting all those who dare to speak openly and tell the truth about the true nature of the Polisario.

Quoting the Nobel Peace Prize, Elie Wiesel, Ms. Porter Cameron added "as long as one child is hungry, our life will be filled with anguish and shame."

"All that these victims need is to know that they are not left alone to face their ordeal and that they are in our thoughts. And when their voices are silent, we lend them ours because if their freedom depends on us, the quality of our freedom depends on theirs, "concludes Kathryn Porter Cameron, also founder the Human Rights Caucus at the U.S. Congress.
